What is the sociological term for attributing minority groups with universal characteristics or stereotypes?

In a society, the dominate group's members are seen as people with individual characters and abilities. Unlike other minority or disenfranchised groups...their characteristics are seen as a collective, with no allowances for individual differences. When one errs, they all are judged and sentenced. Unlike the dominate group who are judged as individuals, with the urance that the actions of one member is not a reflection on all . Furthermore, when one of the minority group does not fit the mode, he/she is seen as an exception and abnormality. Little thought is given to the fact that the stereotyping system of groups may be wrong. There is a sociological term for this...can anyone help me?
