Italian WW1 fighter pilot? Can u translate?
My great grand father left me his memoirs but they are in Italian. He served in the Italian air force during the First World War under Squadron leader Barraca who won the Gold Medal for bravery for the air battle over the River Priare (UK equivilant of the Victoria Cross) His emblem was a Prancing Black Stallion and was given by his mother (after he was shot down) to Enzo Ferrari to use on his automobiles. My great grand father was awarded the Bronze medal for his part in the same battle. His son started to translate the memoirs into English years ago but has since died. I asked when I was in Italy but the problem is this, 1. it is handwritten 2. it is slightly faded and 3. it uses (so I am told) old fashioned Italian words and phrases. If anyone is interested in trying to decipher this piece of history I can e mail it what I have scanned (the original is fragile and crumbles ) I have noticed that it is not possible to e mail through this site, only directly to an actual email address
