What is the proven,best way to remove the tint from the back window?

i have a 1995 pontiac firebird,& i want to remove the tint from the back window,because it's ugly,& peeling off. It doesn't have the defrosting strip. I been reading all the answers here,& I see alot of people saying to use razor blades & windex,but i want somebody with experience to tell me if this really works & exactly how to do this.
